190 SL Tip – Flexible Graphite Intake/Exhaust Manifold Gasket
It is not unusual because of wear that an air leak appears between the head and exhaust manifold. An alternative to machining both surfaces is to install a flexible graphite gasket. This gasket, manufactured by Remflex of Washington State, is made from a flexible graphite material that has been used in high temperature industrial applications for over 30 years. The gasket material, which will withstand temperatures of 3,000oF, feels soft and flexible and it is designed to crush up to 50% to fill gaps or thickness differences between the intakes and exhaust manifolds.

While the gasket design was for a high performance engine with split intake and exhaust manifolds, the dividers could be easily removed with a utility knife for use with our 50’sengines.
